Miami Dolphins: It’s Time To Pay The Man

Once again, we have a few nervous fans who are obsessed with everything, like when DC Vick Fangio did not sign when they were expecting him to, and panic was setting in!

Christian Wilkins is one of the best young run stuffing DTs in the game and he is due for a raise, or he will become a UFA in 2024, if a deal is not done. He currently is scheduled to play on a 10 million 5th year option. Some want to know why it is taking so long, are the Dolphins not interested in giving Wilkins an extension?

I would bet that GM Chris Grier who drafted Wilkins in round one (pick #13) in the 2019 NFL draft wants to give Wilkins a long extension when the TIME IS RIGHT!

For those of you who do not follow the business side of football you might not be aware of the financial side of the Dolphins. Miami’s current cap situation is not conducive to extending contracts for anybody let alone having to pay a top young DT who should be in the range of 4 years, $61,333,563 according to spotrac.

Miami’s current cap space is just $2,756,757 but after June 1st, 2023, the Dolphins will get $13.6 million in 2023, according to Spotrac. For releasing Byron Jones as a June 1st designation. That will give Miami the money they will need to address Wilkins extension and other things like signing draft picks and other potential FA (Like Delvine Cook?) they plan to add to their 2023 roster.

So soon we will find out what the Dolphins plans are for Wilkins as well as any other Veteran FA’s they plan to bring aboard.
