Miami’s roster is all but set for the 2023 season but there are still some veteran players out there in free agency that could be added for additional Depth and Insurance and would be an upgrade to Miami’s Roster.
As for the insurance player OT Cameron Fleming would be the player I would sign to come in and be additional insurance on the OT side of the line for Miami, he can play Left and Right Tackle. Terron Armstead, when healthy, is a beast, unfortunately he is 31years old and has been plagued with injuries in his later years. Last year his absence was noticeable in games he did not play Miami’s offensive line was not the same. Fleming can play LT in relief if Armstead should get injured again this upcoming season.
Austin Jackson has been a major disappointment since being drafted in the first round in 2020. He has not played like a first rounder, and many feel he is not even worthy of being the starter for Miami. The Dolphins did not pick up his 5th year option and that says a lot. Miami coaches have more confidence in Jackson than many of the fan base and media does, but this year is his “Prove It” year because he is on the hot seat. OT Cameron Fleming could provide more competition and Depth behind Jackson should he not confirm the confidence Miami’s coaches have in him or suffer another season ending injury.
The same is true of the other veteran player on my list that could be both an upgrade and added depth to the Dolphins roster and he is part of the rumor mill in trade talks this entire off-season. As te saying goes “Where there’s Smoke there’s Fire” even though Miami re-signed all their RBs from last season and drafted rookie RB Devon Achane the Dolphins have not ruled out adding an additional RB to their roster, especially a proven commodity and a 4× Pro Bowl RB (2019–2022) who was 6th in rushing in 2022.
Delvin Cook the Vikings star RB will eventually be traded or released sometime on or after June 1st in a cost saving move. The Vikings would save $5.89 million if they release him pre-June 1st, $7.89 million if they trade him pre-June 1st and $11 million if they do either post-June 1st per Over The Cap.
Delvin Cooke from reports wants to come to Miami and it would be foolish for the Dolphins “who are swinging for the fences” to not sign Cook because he would become the best RB on the team.
So, I expect before the season starts that Miami will at least add two more veteran players to their roster as they try and navigate through what has become a very tough AFC East and they could use all the weapons they can get to battle for the division title.
Gaskin and Ahmed have most likely played their last games as a Miami Dolphin.
