Miami Had Trade Talks For Lions RB D’andre Swift?

Rumor has it that even after Miami drafted Devon Achane in Round 3 that they at least talked to the Lions about trading for RB D’Andre Swift from Detroit. Now many uses this to prove their case that Miami is still looking to add RB Delvin Cook whose days appear to be numbered in Minnesota.

I on the other hand remember back in the 2020 NFL draft that in which there were a few top RB’s that were ranked as late first round picks or early second round picks and Miami had 3 first round picks that year and a need at the RB position, but instead of drafting a RB, GM Chris Grier drafted CONFIRMED BUST CB Noah Igbinoghene despite having Howard and Jones as two top paid players at their position on the team.

So, drafting the BPA CB who had no chance of starting rather than drafting for NEED at the RB position when Miami had their choice of any RB in the 2020 NFL draft INCLUDING RB D’Andre Swift. No RB was drafted before Miami took Noah at pick #30 in the draft.

Here are the top RBs in the 2020 NFL draft Miami passed up in 2020.

  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire picked 31st by KC
  • D’Andre Swift picked 35th by Detroit
  • Jonathan Taylor picked 41st by Indianapolis
  • Cam Akers picked 53rd by Los Angeles Rams

Miami could have had any of these RB’s and in fact did not even draft an RB that year. The best RB in that draft was who I was jumping up and down screaming that they take Jonathan Taylor out of Wisconsin due to my Wisconsin Roots I knew he was special.

How ironic three years later Miami was trying to get one of the top-rated RBs in the 2020 NFL draft when they had a chance to take Swift or any Top RB in 2020 over Igbinoghene.
