He was the draft pick that kept on giving for Miami and a true win/win trade for both teams. He also was a victim of one of the most bazar draft days in NFL history.
As the 2016 NFL draft was unfolding 10 minutes before the start Tunsil’s twitter account was hacked and it sent a video of Tunsil with a bong attatched to a gas mask and his eyes rolling from the blast! It was an old video, but the damage was done by someone who wanted to sabotage this young man’s career. It went viral and his draft stock plummeted!
Considered a top 5 pick he slid down the draft board to the 13th pick when Dolphins GM Chris Grier took Tunsil off the board and Tunsil rewarded him many times over. First by his play from 2016 to 2018 he played at a high level at a premier position LT (Only QB’s are worth more) After his 3rd year he was traded to Houston in a blockbuster trade that shocked the NFL!
In 2019 our Miami Dolphins acquired a 2020 first-round pick, a 2021 first-round pick, a 2021 second-round pick, cornerback Johnson Bademosi and tackle Julien Davenport from the Houston Texans in exchange for tackle Laremy Tunsil, wide receiver Kenny Stills, a 2020 fourth-round pick and a 2021 sixth.
The residual effects of that deal for Miami were a boat load of picks that was parlayed into so many other picks and was one of the reasons Chris Grier was able to construct the roster we currently have.
It was my hope that we would someday get Tunsil back but today he signed a contract extension worth $75 million dollars and that will mean he will retire as a Houston Texan.
The deal is for three years and potentially worth $75 million with $60 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston. The new pact will once again make Tunsil the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman. (According to SI)
This was a happy story, one that someone should make a movie about considering the evil done to him on his draft day that cost him millions but how he persevered and let his play make up for the few millions he lost on draft day. He has now earned over 135 million dollars in his NFL career!
This is truly a win/win/win for Houston, Miami and more importantly Laremy Tunsil!
I wish
When I saw the headline I thought we got him back
