Putting On My GM Hat Part III

In part 1, I went over Miami’s current 32 players headed for free agency and what I would do as Miami’s GM. If you have not read it, I encourage you to look it over (Click Here) In part II, I covered players on the roster that are ready for extensions from their rookie contracts and what I would do as Miami’s GM. If you have not read it, I encourage you to look it over (Click Here)

In part III I will look at free agency and players I would look to add as well as looking at the upcoming NFL draft prospects.

The biggest addition this off-season has nothing to do with players, but it was the hiring of Vic Fangio as Miami’s new defensive coordinator. This was a huge deal as he was being sought after by quite a few teams but, he chose Miami after learning that Sean Payton would take the Denver Job, a place Vic was fired from recently. This is good news for our Dolphins and our young talented defense!!!!!

Now to free agency, as I always point out this time of the year that free agency part one starts first and then the draft and then part II of free agency and that matters as teams tend to let good veterans go when they land a cheaper draft pick to replace their veterans. Younger and cheaper is how the NFL works, especially how out of control salaries are getting again and some cap on earnings will be in demand soon I would guess.

Let us look at Miami’s needs, where they need to add depth or better talent and here are the positions I have identified as true needs that should be addressed through free agency or the draft if not BOTH!

Team Needs  (OL, RB, TE, LB, EDGE)

Miami needs to add one more veteran O-Lineman and continue to draft them as well until they get to the point where they are one of the top offensive lines in the NFL. Even though they improved last year they were at best average to poor especially at run blocking. So, Guards and Tackles are a high priority on my list so let us look at some possibilities.

Free Agency

Here is my list of players I would try to sign if available once free agency hits there is still time left to sign or tag anyone of these players.

As you will see I am not a big proponent of signing players close to or over 30 years of age so if you have a player you like that is not on my list, they might be beyond my age threshold. If there is someone you think I should add, do not hesitate to tell me in the comments.
