Is Byron Jones a Quitter?

In 2020, the Dolphins signed CB Byron Jones to a five-year, $82.5 million deal, including $57 million guaranteed, that at the time made him the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback at the time and pissed off our own top CB X Howard who pouted and wanted more money. (Miami gave in)

Byron Jones has played good since signing his contract, he was sorely missed last year if you ask me and that affected the play of X as well because he did not have the shutdown abilities of Jones opposite him on the field.

Last year neither player earned their money if you ask me. The difference being that one played through injuries while the other sat out the entire season.

I call Byron Jones “Will Fuller part two” because he took the money and went Awal last year just like Fuler the year before. Jones was nowhere to be found and did not even tweet what his issues were until a resent tweet that can be interpreted in many ways.

Here is what Jones recently tweeted:

Much has changed in 8 years. Today I can’t run or jump because of my injuries sustained playing this game. DO NOT take the pills they give you. DO NOT take the injections they give you. If you absolutely must, consult an outside doctor to learn the long-term implications.

It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee. In my opinion, no amount of professional success or financial gain is worth avoidable chronic pain and disabilities. Godspeed to the draft class of 2023.

So after being silent all last season he now says …. “Today I can’t run or jump because of my injuries sustained playing this game”.

Some have interpreted this to mean he is planning on retiring; he did not say that specifically but what is he going to do if he can’t run or jump? To me this looks like a set up for some legal action against the NFL and the teams he has played for Dallas & Miami.

No matter what his issues are one thing is plain, Miami needs to move on from Byron Jones as soon as they can at the least cost-effective way they can. There are some other players in free agency deserving of the money that Jones is scheduled to make and since he took a year off at Miami’s expense, I see no other recourse than to move on from Jones!

It will help the cap situation and allow Miami to pursue some of the top FA CB in 2023!

Good Riddance Byron Jones!
