The Dolphins fired defensive coordinator Josh Boyer after four seasons with the franchise, the last three as defensive coordinator, the team announced Thursday.
In addition to Boyer, the Dolphins also fired safeties coach Steve Gregory, outside linebackers coach Ty McKenzie and assistant linebackers coach Steve Ferentz. (Per ESPN)
I never relish the firing of anybody, but it comes with the territory, and he will land on his feet relatively quickly if he wants.
I called for Josh Boyer’s firing just after the Bears game where to me there were no adjustments to Justin Fields in week 9 when he ran for 178 rushing yards against Miami’s defense. He broke Michael Vick’s previous quarterback, single-game rushing record of 173 yards. That stain will be on us for a long time!
The fact that we have Josh Allen in our division who is also a running QB and Boyer never really defended running QB’s. He had seen Allen twice a year for the past 3 years and still had no answers!
There were poor schematics too many times this past season that cost Miami games and the defenses poor 3rd down was the most egregious of them all. The only thing that went well defensively was Miami’s run defense.
Here is my list of DC’s I would love for Miami to look at and the most important thing is they have some head coaching experience to help Mike McDaniel as he grows into his position. (I still want Lovie)
Any of these names would be an upgrade over Boyer!
- Vic Fangio
- Mike Zimmer
- Lovie Smith (My Recommendation)
- Jim Swartz (Hired by The Browns)
- Eric Washington
- Ejiro Evero
- Jerod Mayo
- Jerry Gray
- Joe Whitt Jr.

Renaldo Hill……… there’s a name I haven’t heard in forever.
