Miami Dolphins Trading Up?

Omar Kelly did a mock draft and raised some eyebrows when he had Miami trading from the 3rd round (Thier first pick in this years draft) up into the first round and selecting LB Devin Lloyd. (see below)

13. DOLPHINS (trade with Texans via Browns): Utah LB Devin Lloyd

Miami should trade a 2023 first and second-round pick to the Texans to add this inside linebacker who can do everything at a high level. Lloyd has playmaking instincts, defends the run well, is effective in coverage and knows how to rush the passer (16.5 sacks in four seasons). His addition would complete the Dolphins defense. Top needs: ILB, Edge, C, NT

At first, I brushed it off as another “Click Bate” move to get attention, but after thinking about it a little I reconsidered and think it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Miami’s GM Chris Grier just might trade back into the first round and give up future picks and or a player to draft a prospect in the first or second round of the 2022 NFL draft.

They went all in during free agency so why not go for it on draft day as this team is TRULY a player or two away from being a serious contender within the division. The thought got me excited, and I started thinking about what player I would like Miami to target in this upcoming draft and here are the names of players I would love to see Miami get.

First Round Prospects

  • Utah LB Devin Lloyd
  • Georgia DT Jordan Davis
  • Ohio State WR Chris Olave
  • Boston College OG/C Zion Johnson
  • Washington CB Trent McDuffie
  • Texas A&M OG Kenyon Green
  • Alabama WR Jameson Williams
  • Purdue DE George Karlaftis
  • Georgia DT Devonte Wyatt
  • Florida CB Kaiir Elam
  • Alabama ILB Christian Harris
  • Iowa C Tyler Linderbaum

Second Round Prospects

  • Minnesota DE Boye Mafe
  • Georgia LB Quay Walker
  • Iowa State RB Breece Hall
  • Washington CB Kyler Gordon
  • Georgia LB Nakobe Dean
  • Tulsa OT Tyler Smith
  • Central Michigan OT Bernhard Raimann
  • USC DE Drake Jackson
  • Houston DT Logan Hall
  • Georgia S Lewis Cine
  • Penn State DE Arnold Ebiketie
  • Baylor S Jalen Pitre
  • Georgia DT Devonte Wyatt
  • Auburn CB Roger McCreary
  • Michigan DE David Ojabo
  • Wyoming LB Chad Muma
  • Michigan State RB Kenneth Walker III
  • Georgia RB James Cook
  • Connecticut DT Travis Jones
  • North Carolina OG Joshua Ezeudu
  • Maryland S Nick Cross
  • Oklahoma DE Nik Bonitto
  • Nebraska C Cam Jurgens

These are some names that makes sense for Miami to trade up in the draft and grab, we do not know what the Dolphins will or will not do but do not count out the possibility that Miami could trade up in the draft, that is why we should be ready and enjoy the process.
