Back in November of 2020 I drafted an article entitled Are The Dolphins Safe at Safety? in it I expressed concerns that we had two CB’s that was converted to Safeties, Bobby McCain and Eric Row both players I loved but did not feel they had the bodies to play that role. I remember Bobby McCain making a hard hit and getting a concussion and it was admirable that he sacrificed his body that way but it also was proof that he was not best suited for that position.
At the time Miami had drafted young Safety Brandon Jones in 2020 / Round: 3 / Pick: 70 and I knew he was one part of our future at Safety and we still needed to add another player opposite Jones to grow together at the last line of defense as well as blitzing and stopping the run.
This last draft Miami addressed the 2nd part of their Safety positio when they drafted Saftey Jevon Holland in the NFL DRAFT: 2021 / ROUND: 2 / pick: 36 and immediately dumped Bobby McCain and while some felt it cruel who can argue with the results?
Jevon Holland and Brandon Jones are tied for the NFL lead in quarterback pressures among safeties with 16. Holland’s three sacks are tied for second most among safeties, behind Jones’ Six.
These young puppies are growing into their roles and barring injuries Miami is set at the Safety position for years to come!
