This is the beginning and proof that the rebuild is working as Jerome Baker who was drafted three years ago gets an extension and that is the best that Dolphins could hope for as their draft picks start to mature. Drafted Round 3, No. 73 overall: Jerome Baker, LB, Ohio State, has been one of the best tacklers on our team as he’s done a remarkable job he’s lead the team in tackles the past two years and that’s a good thing.
Why this matters? It matters because now other players on the team can look forward to extensions as the Dolphins take care of their own, gone are the days of us losing out on players that we’ve drafted only to see them go to other teams and continue to excel, I think of no other than one of my favorite receivers of all time and I still love this guy today, even though I don’t follow him as much. Jarvis Landry who I still hate that the Dolphins allowed him to walk, in fact I would’ve rather had Jarvis Landry here over DeVante Parker!
This is what we are expecting from the rookies we draft that they grow and develop into legitimate starters for this team and the Dolphins have done a great job in drafting ever since Chris Grier was given full control, I expect others to come not too far after Jerome with their extensions as well.
If you recall Jason Sanders was also drafted in 2018 has already received an extension, unfortunately we lost out on Minkah Fitzpatrick who was too immature to take on his role, hopefully Jevon Holland will prove worthy of that opportunity. Also don’t forget Mike Gesicki was drafted in 2018 as well as Durham Smythe both of whom could get extensions, despite the depth that we have at the TE position.
Out of the 2018 NFL draft, the Dolphins have three legitimate starters and one major contributor and as they sign these players to extensions it’s proof that the draft work. That is how you build a sustained winner by hitting on our draft picks! Look for more down the road as the Dolphins have been doing a great job in drafting players throughout their rebuild.
