Miami won 10 games and was at the doorstep of making the playoffs before Buffalo slammed the door shut in our face! That was a bitter pill to swallow. But there is great news, help is on the way as the Dolphins despite going 10-6 still have the number 3 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft!
If you don’t know how that happened, it is because of what is now (in hindsight) an excellent trade by GM Chris Grier who sent our young star LT Laremy Tunsil to Houston for a 2020 first round pick and a 2021 first and second round pick.
The complete deal was:
“Miami acquired a 2020 first-round pick, a 2021 first-round pick, a 2021 second-round pick, CB Johnson Bademosi and T Julien Davenport from the Texans in exchange for T Laremy Tunsil, WR Kenny Stills, a 2020 fourth-round pick and a 2021 sixth-round pick.”
The jury is still out on the 2020 first round pick they got from Houston as Miami used that pick for CB Noah Igbinoghene, from Auburn who did not exactly have a great season and is remembered for being roasted early on against Buffalo’s star WR Stefon Diggs as he had to replace injured CB Byron Jones in the game.
After the final game of the season where Jones did play against Diggs and he still torched us there seems to be room for redemption for our young (just 20 years old) rookie CB.
This year with Houston’s 1st & 2nd round picks and an obvious need to upgrade the talent on offense Miami will have 4 of the top 50 picks to add young offensive talent to the team. Hopefully, they will finally address the RB position with one of these top 50 picks (Alabama’s Najee Harris being my choice) and at WR Miami is in position with the 3rd pick to take Tua’s former college teammate Heisman Trophy Winner DeVonta Smith WR, Alabama.
The Dolphins also can possibly trade down from the 3rd pick and still get Smith while adding to their draft capital! I would play it safe and take Smith at 3…for now.
Much like last year the Dolphins have so many options heading into the 2021 NFL draft and this team will just add more talent through both the draft and free agency to improve the talent and draw closer to the division winning Buffalo Bills.
