Miami Dolphins @ Denver Broncos Preview

Game Preview: Miami Dolphins vs Denver Broncos

The Miami Dolphins fly into Mile High Denver Colorado on a 5 game winning streak and take on a struggling Broncos team that is still dangerous and as we know any given Sunday any team can win but if you look at the direction of these two teams odds are that the Dolphins SHOULD come away with a win.

In previous years with past head coaches our Dolphins would lose a game like this and not to say that they won’t lose tomorrow but this team is totally different than teams of the resent past as they are well coach and well prepared each and every week and now even the doubters are starting to take notice!

It was a time that the National media always bet against Miami but this Brian Flores lead Dolphins team is making believers out of the most critical cynics! Denver is a team that seems to be lost mostly due to injuries but after so many years as the GM how long will John Elway hold onto his position?

Unfortunately when teams hire on a legend to a major position like Head coach or GM they tend to give them way more leeway than the average GM or Coach and that is where Denver finds themselves with Elway who really should have been let go a few years ago.

The Dolphins have their own legend as part of the team but in a special role that does not have him acting as a GM or coach and that for now is a perfect position for Dan Marino.

Did you know this fact? John Elway and Dan Marino only faced each other 3 times in their NFL careers.

On to the match ups

The match up: on Offense

The Denver Broncos are ranked 26th in total offense averaging 334 yards per game on offense, scoring 20.7 points a game while Miami ranks 29th on offense (Down from last Game)  averaging 318 yards per game on offense, scoring 27.9 points per game. (Ironically 9th in the league in scoring)

The match up: on Defense

The Denver Broncos defense is ranked 17th in total defense and is giving up on average 360 yards per game and allowing 28.2 points per game, while Miami is ranked 19th in total defense (Up from last week) giving up on average 371 yards per game 20.2 points per game (5th in the league).

The Strategy:

For The Dolphins:

Miami still needs to rely on their improving running game and hopefully get similar results from undrafted rookie RB Salvon Ahmed who fell just shy of 100 yard rushing last week he has good vision and speed and is a strong runner and that is exactly what this team needs to continue to work on as the winter sets in.

Tua is developing just fine and I look forward towards his weekly improvement since he’s been starting Miami is third in the league in red-zone percentage, he has also managed to not turn the ball over as he has zero INT’s, hopefully fumbling will not continue to be an issues (Not all his fault). OC Chan Gailey is doing an excellent job handling Tua and his numbers will grow as he gets more starts as his poise and accuracy is still top shelf!

Miami’s Defense lead by CB Xavien Howard, who is second in the NFL in interceptions with 5 int’s, and DE Emmanuel Ogbah, who is fourth in the NFL in sacks with 8, needs to keep the pressure on. Miami also needs to be aware of what Denver’s strengths are and that will be the run game. They will try to pound the ball and have very decent RB’s to accomplish that goal.

If Miami starts fast like they have these past few games and get turnovers they will once again walk away with a win.

For The Denver Broncos

Denver’s QB Drew Lock is not 100% and could be in for a tough outing so I think their plan will be to run the ball a lot and rely on their run game to both control the clock and win the game a ball controlled offense is they key to victory and sustaining drives and having success on third down is what they will be trying to do.

Denver on Defense needs to do something no team has yet to do to Rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa and that is bait him into an int or more and they must not allow Tua to have the sustained long drives that he has provided for Miami since starting.

Miami is now starting to show a run game and that just complicates the offense as with the weapons the Dolphins have at TE and Receivers if the Dolphins continue to run effectively they will be hard to stop.

My Take:

The Dolphins have a lot on the line as a win will get them tied for first place in the AFC East as buffalo is on a bye this week and will face the Chargers, 49ers and Steelers the next 3 weeks while after Denver Miami faces the Jets, Bengals going into December where Miami schedule gets very tough.

So with all that’s on the line I can see Miami coming away with a win in Denver but as you all know there are no guarantees and any given Sunday!
