The game did not go as predicted by any of us and it’s time to realize just how Good this young Dolphins team is.
Miami went into San Francisco as the projected underdog by -9 points and it was billed as a game where the 49ers were finally getting back on track towards being healthy again as QB Jimmy Garoppolo was finally back in the starting lineup.
The Dolphins despite having a 1-3 record has played well enough that had a play or two went their way could just as easily have been 3-1, keeping in mind that Miami is the 2nd youngest team in the NFL as well as having the 3rd toughest schedule in the league as two of their losses are against teams that are currently undefeated.
This team (in year two of a rebuild ) has a love hate relationship with it’s current starting QB who has both amazed and frustrated us so far in the first 5 games this season. Ryan Fitzpatrick is also keeping the future at that position at bay as his roller-coaster play caused many to call for the future to start now.
Miami decided that Ryan Fitzpatrick gives them the best chance to win now and so as long as Fitzmagic shows up he has earned the trust in coach Brian Flores and boy did he deliver Sunday as the Dolphin blew out the 49ers 43-17!
Ryan Fitzpatrick was on fire in this game as he had a 154.5 passer rating for the game and he started the game hot and remained hot, Preston Williams had his best game since coming back from his injury last year. Williams had a 47 yard reception that proved to be one of the longest plays of the year for Miami at that time.
Shortly after though Mike Gesicki beat that record as he caught a 70 yard pass from Fitpatrick.
Miami also had Rookie OT/G Robert Hunt start at Right Tackle as the Dolphins shuffled their offensive line due to injuries.
Miami showed what their potential is this past Sunday as they handedly beat the San Francisco 49ers who is struggling with injuries and was able to finally start their franchise QB who was missing in the starting lineup with an ankle injury the past two weeks.
It might not have been a good idea to start Jimmy Garoppolo as it was apparent his injury was not fully healed and that spelled for a recipe of disaster as Miami’s Defense finally lived up to our expectations as they dominated the 49ers offense, Miami sacked Jimmy three times and had 4 QB hits and picked him off 2 times. Jimmy Garoppolo passed for 77 yards and had zero TD’s and had a career low QB rating of 15.7!
Not to be outdone Miami’s Defense had it’s most complete games of the season as linebacker Jerome Baker, defensive tackle Zach Sieler, linebacker Elandon Roberts, outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel and defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah each had a sack.
McCain and Howard both had INT’s and with the return of CB Byron jones our secondary finally played to their potential. I still feel the lessons learned by Rookie Noah Igbinoghene is invaluable and will eventually make him a better player long-term.
The third part of the team “Special Teams” also had a great game as Jason Sanders kicked another 5 field Goals after doing so the previous week.
All and all this was a preview of what Miami is building and what their potential is, but they are still a young team and will still find themselves making mistakes as well as the schedule still is packed with teams that are much more advanced than the Dolphins.
