I’m following up my last mock draft where I traded down, with this one where I trade up to get the player I would only trade up for, we could end up with fewer picks than we would had trading down but I covet one player so much that I just had to see how we would end up trading for this player. I still used my favorite FREE draft simulator to do the draft and after expecting a few rejections I will get the Bengals to accept my trade offer.
I will share every detail of the trade offers rejected. I first started off using the trade value chart to get an idea of what it would take to trade up to number 1 and get the Bengals pick because I do not want to risk some other team making a deal to get my coveted player.
According to the trade value chart the Bengals pick in the draft (pick number 1) is valued at 3000 points. The Dolphins pick at number 5 has a value of 1700 points so we need 1300 points to get to equal value but I suspect 1300 points will not be enough to get the Bengals to give up their pick but it’s a start.
Miami’s Top Picks and there value
- #5 Value points 1700
- #18 Value points 900
- #26 Value points 700
- #39 Value points 510
- #56 Value Points 340
- #70 Value Points 240
As you can see we have more than enough picks to offer the Bengals a deal to move up 4 spots, so going with the value chart numbers we can offer our #5, #18, & #39 a value of 3,110 value points so I will start off with that offer.
Here was the response :
Pick traded from Cincinnati Bengals to Miami Dolphins. Details:
CINN receives the following picks: Round 1 Pick 5 (5) (MIA), Round 1 Pick 18 (18) (MIA), Round 2 Pick 7 (39) (MIA)
MIA receives the following picks: Round 1 Pick 1 (1) (CINN)
They accepted our offer so I will complete this draft and then I will see if I can make another offer of less value and update you at the end.
But for now we own the First Pick in the 2020 NFL draft and with Round 1 Pick 1 (MIA): Chase Young, DE/OLB, Ohio State
I know some of you QB obsessed folks heads are exploding by now but hopefully you will realize that having the best player in the draft will be far better than risking on another overrated QB because of their position and if you are a regular reader of my blog you know I feel Josh Rosen deserves to have a year with a better roster and a chance to compete again with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job and as we all know the Dolphins have two first round and 2nd round picks in 2021 if Josh fails to take over the starting job sometime in 2020.
Back to the draft….
We now move to our 2nd first round pick #26 a d just like my last mock draft I will show you the trade offers made for each pick. With our 26th pick we have 4 trade offers
NY Jets | Round 1 Pick 26 (26) | Round 2 Pick 16 (48) Round 3 Pick 4 (68) Round 3 Pick 15 (79) |
|
LA Chargers | Round 1 Pick 26 (26) | Round 2 Pick 5 (37) Round 3 Pick 7 (71) Round 4 Pick 6 (109) |
|
Baltimore | Round 1 Pick 26 (26) | Round 1 Pick 28 (28) Round 3 Pick 28 (92) Round 4 Pick 23 (126) |
|
Detroit | Round 1 Pick 26 (26) | Round 2 Pick 3 (35) Round 3 Pick 3 (67) |
Looking over these offers I decided to accept the Baltimore Ravens offer and traded down 2 picks and picked up a 3rd and 4th round pick in exchange. With our Round 1 Pick 28 (28) from the Ravens we once again get a trade offer from 5 teams
Green Bay | Round 1 Pick 28 (28) (BALT) | Round 1 Pick 30 (30) Round 2 Pick 30 (62) |
|
Arizona | Round 1 Pick 28 (28) (BALT) | Round 2 Pick 8 (40) Round 3 Pick 8 (72) Round 4 Pick 8 (111) |
|
Indianapolis | Round 1 Pick 28 (28) (BALT) | Round 2 Pick 2 (34) Round 3 Pick 11 (75) |
|
NY Giants | Round 1 Pick 28 (28) (BALT) | Round 2 Pick 4 (36) Round 3 Pick 34 (98) (COMP) Round 4 Pick 4 (107) |
|
Tampa Bay | Round 1 Pick 28 (28) (BALT) | Round 2 Pick 13 (45) Round 3 Pick 12 (76) Round 4 Pick 11 (114) |
As much as I like to hoard picks I also value higher draft picks so I will reject these offers and make my pick so with the Round 1 Pick 28 (MIA): Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
We now move to Round 2 Pick 24 (56) and we have 3 trade offers
Cleveland | Round 2 Pick 24 (56) | Round 3 Pick 10 (74) Round 3 Pick 26 (90) Round 4 Pick 9 (112) |
|
Seattle | Round 2 Pick 24 (56) | Round 2 Pick 27 (59) Round 3 Pick 36 (100) (COMP) |
|
Baltimore | Round 2 Pick 24 (56) | Round 2 Pick 28 (60) Round 7 Pick 11 (225) |
I can’t refuse the Seattle offer to move down 3 spots and get an additional 3rd round pick. So now at Pick 27 (59) from (SEA) we once again have trade offers
Green Bay | Round 2 Pick 27 (59) (SEA) | Round 2 Pick 30 (62) Round 3 Pick 30 (94) |
|
Denver | Round 2 Pick 27 (59) (SEA) | Round 3 Pick 13 (77) Round 3 Pick 19 (83) |
|
Seattle | Round 2 Pick 27 (59) (SEA) | Round 2 Pick 32 (64) Round 4 Pick 27 (130) |
This time I will reject these offers and make my selection so with the Round 2 Pick 27 (#59) Round 2 Pick 27 (MIA): Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin ***SIDE NOTE*** I’m writing this while watching the combine and RB Jonathan Taylor from Wisconsin just broke off a sub 4.4 forty @ 4.39 his stock just rose! He will not be there in the real draft, but we got him now!
We now enter Round 3 Pick 6 (70) and yes there are trade offers by 3 teams
Cincinnati | Round 3 Pick 6 (70) | Round 3 Pick 12 (76) (T.B.) Round 4 Pick 1 (104) |
|
Jacksonville | Round 3 Pick 6 (70) | Round 3 Pick 9 (73) Round 4 Pick 10 (113) |
|
NY Giants | Round 3 Pick 6 (70) | Round 3 Pick 34 (98) (COMP) Round 4 Pick 4 (107) |
I decided to accept the Jacksonville offer and get an additional 4th round pick we are up to 15 picks in the 2020 NFL draft exactly what we need in the rebuilding process. So now with the Round 3 Pick 9 (73) we got from the Jags we have two trade offers
Atlanta | Round 3 Pick 9 (73) (JAX) | Round 3 Pick 14 (78) Round 4 Pick 13 (116) |
|
LA Rams | Round 3 Pick 9 (73) (JAX) | Round 3 Pick 20 (84) Round 7 Pick 20 (234) |
I love trade offers that don’t require moving down to far and gets us another middle round pick so I accepted Atlanta’s offer giving us 17 picks in the 2020 NFL draft I will no longer trade after this one.
So with the Round 3 Pick 14 (78) from Atlanta we once again have trade offers
LA Rams | Round 3 Pick 14 (78) (ATL) | Round 3 Pick 20 (84) Round 4 Pick 20 (123) Round 4 Pick 34 (137) (COMP) |
|

|
Minnesota | Round 3 Pick 14 (78) (ATL) | Round 3 Pick 25 (89) Round 4 Pick 26 (129) Round 4 Pick 35 (138) (COMP) |

|
Denver | Round 3 Pick 28 (92) (BALT) | Round 3 Pick 31 (95) Round 4 Pick 31 (134) |
I reject all trade offers and with the Round 3 Pick 28 (MIA): Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State
Our next pick is Round 3 Pick 36 (100) (SEA) and we have some trade offers
Cincinnati | Round 3 Pick 36 (100) (SEA) | Round 4 Pick 1 (104) Round 7 Pick 1 (215) |
