Frustratingly Sweet Win!

feature-02

It’s the only way this season could have ended as fate would have it, the Miami Dolphins go up to New England in a very important game for the Patriots who wanted to have a bye next week in the playoffs and the Dolphins come away with an upset win 27-24.

How else would you have it when you consider this wacky season that has come to an end and at the same time you can’t help but be frustrated as the Dolphins once again missed out on an opportunity to move up in the draft.

I get it for the players and the coaches and maybe 30% of the fans this was a great win going to New England and beating the Patriots in a game that had significance to them as the Miami Dolphins basically knocked them out of the number two seed in the playoffs down to the number three seed.

The Patriots success rate is 50% when they do not have a bye in the playoffs so this Dolphins win has done a lot of damage to the Patriots and also revenged an earlier beat down they received at the hands of the Patriots when Miami was still trying to figure themselves out at the beginning of the season.

At the end of the day it’s still a meaningless win that has done more damage than good when it comes to the Dolphins draft position but at the same time as a true Dolphins fan it is still bittersweet because I hate the Patriots and I don’t want to see them in another Super Bowl.

Now that the season is over the Dolphins are projecting to be picking as late as sixth in the upcoming draft as opposed to fifth. I just don’t care it is what it is and they’ll have to deal with that.

There are truly some positives when it comes to the Dolphins season, no one expected them to win five games and the Dolphins end up winning three out of the last five games and the last two games in a row but the biggest win would have to be this upset in New England today.

The good news is the season is over for Miami and now we can sit back and watch as this Dolphins team makes another major transformation in the offseason.

The one good thing about winning these games is that the optimism of the fan base is off the hook right now and rightfully so, much credit must be given to Dolphins management as well as coaching staff and of course the scrappy young players who are fighting for their jobs and deserves a job well done salute.

The Miami Dolphins are headed on an upward trajectory and there is an enthusiasm that will continue on throughout the off season as we watch general manager Chris Grier do his thing.

With all that being said I want to congratulate Brian Flores and his coaching staff and thank them for the work that they’ve done.

I would also be remiss if I did not salute who may have been the right person at the right time for this team, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick because he’s had his “Fitzmagic Show” going on the entire season and truly deserves to come back and compete for the starting job next year.

This has been the most frustrating season I can remember as a Dolphin fan as what started out as low expectations and high hopes for high draft picks ended up being a season of over achieving and building an identity this team has sorely missed for quite some time.

Unfortunately they paid a heavy price for winning five games that at the of the day is truly meaningless or at least I think it is.
