Cam Newton is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL, he has a rocket arm, he’s big, strong and a pleasant but quirky personality. Unfortunately for him the years of taking hits has taken its toll on him, he has been a victim of injuries for the past few years.
In his absence the Carolina Panthers may have stumbled on what they feel is an adequate replacement for Cam Newton and just might let him walk after the season.
Currently Cam Newton is on injured reserve and he’s out for the year and the backup quarterback Kyle Allen has been playing pretty decent for the Panthers but the real catalyst for the Panthers success is truly Christian McCaffrey who has emerged as one of the top running backs if not the top running back in the NFL
The Miami Dolphins are In search of a franchise quarterback something they desperately been needing for the past 20 plus seasons since Dan Marino retired.
Many have speculated that the Dolphins were looking to draft Tua Tongavola the young talented quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Tua Tongavola suffered a devastating hip injury that has put his draft status in question and created options for him to potentially go back and play another year of college football.
The Miami Dolphins have been winning lately and has pushed themselves out of the top three in the upcoming draft if it were to be held today. The Dolphins are a team that can still win a few more games before the end of the season.
Under that scenario Miami will be out of the race for one of the top young quarterbacks coming out of the draft this year and despite my reservations It is apparent it just might be that the Dolphins have no plans to draft a quarterback this year.
I personally feel that Miami is set at quarterback for at least another year by bringing Ryan Fitzpatrick back to compete with Josh Rosen who is still developing to see if he can beat out Fitzpatrick for the starting job next year. I see no problem having Josh Rosen as our future quarterback.
But to get a franchise quarterback like Cam Newton if he is available could advance the development of this team by years provided of course that he’s healthy enough to play and if the team find him to be a good fit for their system.
For now all we have to do is continue to ride out this season and see how the Dolphins end up at seasons end and where they land in the draft order for the 2020 NFL draft.
Hopefully we’ll still be in a position to take one of the top young quarterbacks and allow that person to come in and compete with Josh Rosen for the starting job because competition is the only thing that will force one of these quarterbacks to rise to the top.
I look forward to a very exciting off season starting with the free agency and that’s when we will find out if the Dolphins do have some interest in Cam Newton moving forward.
