Miami plays their first division game of the season as they head north to visit the Jets this Sunday in New York.

The Jets are riding high on their new toy and quite impressive rookie QB who very wisely loosened up in his first NFL start of his career by throwing a pick six and getting it out of the way.

Needless to say the rookie did get himself together and play a very good game as the Jets as a team spanked the Detroit Lions 48-17 on a blowout.

So it’s understandable that the New York Jets fans or excited about their rookie quarterback if you look closely at the game it was more about how they protected their young quarterback by running the ball very effectively that produced the win as well as very good defensive play.

So the key to the game for Miami is to stop the run, they did an effective job last week against one of the better running backs in the league Derrick Henry but the Jets sport a two-headed monster and Miami needs to be prepared to stand up against these battering rams.

On to the matchups:

The matchup: on Offense

Miami enters the game in a three way tie for 1st place in the AFC East 1-0, averaging 27 points per game which puts them in a 3 way tie for 9th place after game one  Miami rank 20th in passing 222 yards passing, Miami ranks 13th in rushing with 120 total yards rushing averaging 4.1 yards per carry as a team.

New York Jets enters the game in a three way tie for 1st place in the AFC East 1-0, averaging 48 points per game which puts them in a two way tie for first place in the NFL so far this year, they are ranked 23rd in passing with 180 yards passing  they are 3rd in rushing with 169 total yards rushing averaging 4.7 yards per carry as a team.

 The matchup: on Defense

Miami enters the game in a three way tie for 11th in points given up per game with an average of 20 PPGthey rank 12th against the pass giving up on average 220 YPPGthey rank 18th in the league against the run giving up  116 yards and they are ranked 15th  in total yards given up per game with an average of 336 yards in game one.

New York Jets enters the game 8th in points given up per game with an average of 17 PPG, they rank 24th against the pass giving up on average 300 YPPGthey rank 1st in the league against the run giving up 39 yards in game one and they are ranked 16th in total yards given up per game with an average of 339 yards in game one.

The Strategy:

For The Dolphins:

The Dolphins need to continue to run a balanced offense and try and establish a run game against  the Jet #1 run defense but Miami with the speed they have on offense might find it easy to score big on offense.

Ryan Tannehill should use his targets and they should take even more chances down field as the Jets secondary seems suspect. With this being a division game it is a toss up with the Jets having a slight edge being at home, Miami needs this game to maybe open some eyes and get some respect from around the league and this win would do wonders for the young teams confidence.

For The Jets:

The Jets are the prototypical old school type team and with a young QB the best way to protect him is to run the ball well and play sound defense. The Jets last week ran the ball very well and stopped the run as they held their opponent to just 39 yards rushing.

With a rookie QB that started his NFL  career with the worst throw for a QB with a pick 6 last week he rebounded well and played a solid game look for Miami to try and put pressure on him with their pass rush and look for the Jets to get the ball out quickly to slow up the Dolphins  pass rush.

This should be a very good game and for both teams starting off with a win last week a win on Sunday can be a huge confidence builder as they navigate their way through the 2018 season.

Homers Pick: Miami 35, Jets 27
