Trade Bait? (The Defense)

After addressing the offense I now turn my attention to the Defense the best unit of the team. It is undeniable that Miami’s Defense is still the stronger unit between the two. Miami’s defensive front is formidable anchored by two pro bowl players in Soliai and Starks Miami has been one tough team to run against. They are now looking to give Jarred Odrick who is still listed on the roster as a DE more playing time at DT where he seems better suited. That will keep the older vets fresh each game and allow for a smooth transition at season’s end  should one of our veteran pro bowl players move on (if not both).

So it is no surprise that the defensive front is intact from last year it would be negligence to have it any other way. But that is where it stops. On defense changes were made surprisingly at the LB spot where we had two solid players in Dansby and Burnett both at the beginning of free agency were sent packing. Now their replacements (Ellerbe and Wheeler) are younger players who are hitting their prime and still have some upside they provide more speed and cost a little less…

The CB’s were a problem last year in both depth and talent, after a failed effort of both V Davis and S Smith  we eventually scrapped both players and now have drafted two more young CB’s but we also have a very good group of veteran CB’s to help with the transition of the young CB’s  so there is depth at the CB position and if any rookie is able to step up we just might have enough talent more than we need.

The Safety’s are represented by our young stud Reshad Jones who just re-upped  for  another 4 years  so we will be fine at Safety, Depth might be a concern but for now I like what we have.

DE is a position where a surprise in camp last year’s 3rd round pick Olivier Vernon seems to be making a strong push to start opposite Wake. Now surprise, surprise haters are questioning picking Dion Jordan.

This Defense need to stay intact as much as possible so I do not see many tradable players in fact I could only look at one of these two players I list below as possible trade bait especially if our young Rookie CB Will Davis can make a case to be inserted in as a starter. He is having a very good camp.

Players who are trade bait:

Dimitri Patterson:

Dimitri is making it hard for Miami to get rid of him even with his salary being high. He is pushing to start opposite Grimes who is a lock at one starter. So it’s either Dimitri or the players listed below…

Richard Marshall:

Marshall is a solid veteran CB and he is still considered the starter opposite Grimes but his position is not 100% guaranteed because Patterson is pushing to start. Also rookie Will Davis is making a case to get a shot so the depth is really good at CB. If a team looking to deal call I can see Miami maybe offering up one of the two Marshall or Patterson.
